July 9, 2006

Recently, my son and I watched "The 20 Greatest Southern Rocks Songs" on CMT. I started recounting all of the concerts that I went to in the early 80's. I then began telling him about my high school graduation trip from South Charleston, West Virginia to Myrtle Beach in June, 1982. The highlight of the trip were the nights we spent at The Bowery and listening to this great sourthern rock group called The Siver Travis Band!

In fact, members of the band came over to our motel one night after the show and I still have an autographed copy of the .45 with "Baby It's True". I remember that week in Myrtle Beach and listening to the Silver Travis Band like it was yesterday.

Wondering whatever happened to the band and its members, I was pleasantly surprised when I did a Google search and found the Silver Travis website! It's great to see Rick, Randy, Joey, and Mike still rocking and I hope that they don't take another 20 year vacation.

I live in Arizona now, so, unfortunately I won't be able to see the gang live anytime soon. However, the CD will be good substitute!

Doug McCurry

December 12, 2005

The Silver Travis Band is a staple of American music. Rick Cash was a legend prior to joining STB, 25+ years ago he was known for a string of 3-day suspensions from SHS (verbal altercations w/ the school librarian), smuggling 16 oz. Buds into underage venues, and providing subject matter expertise on “The Young & the Restless”. Yet, he gave it all up to do the rock ‘n roll thing.

Rick will never admit it, but it was the DEEP SOUTH BAND that inspired him to success. Rick, I still have the infamous ‘road tapes’ – I think I could probably get top dollar for them on e-Bay.

But I gotta tell you guys that I paid $2.50 for a copy of “Baby It’s True” at Record Bar in 1982, and that was about $1.25 more than the going price of a 45 back then. That was way over the top; I’m still not over it. Must have been those guys who ran Creative Arts, gouging the consumer. Now who were those guys? Oh yeah…

Gentleman, come to Charlotte sometime, I’ll be in the front row. You can knock $1.25 off the cover charge and we can call it even.

See ya.

Little Brother

December 11, 2005
